Patient Information - Thyroid
The thyroid is a small endocrine gland inside your neck, located in front of your breathing airway (trachea) and below your Adam's apple. The thyroid gland makes thyroid hormones, which circulate in the bloodstream to all of the tissues of your body. Thyroid hormones act to control your metabolism (your body's ability to break down food and store it in energy form, and your ability to break down food into waste products with a release of energy in the process.)
