Patient Information - Hormone Abuse
Hormones are substances produced by glands (or organs) that are transported to different sites in the body to affect various bodily functions. Anabolic steroids are any hormone-like substances that are related to testosterone, the major male sex hormone. These steroid hormones are different from the steroid produced by our adrenal glands that is similar to "cortisone" and used to treat inflammation, asthma and rashes. The abuse of anabolic steroid hormones among young people has been rising.
