The Endocrine Society ? Devoted to Research on Hormones and the Clinical Practice of Endocrinology
Meetings

Organize an Official Endocrine Forum

Building on the success of the Forum on Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals, The Endocrine Society seeks to support day-long topical basic and translational science meetings to be held in conjunction with ENDO. While the format of the scientific sessions at each Endocrine Forum will vary according to the organizers’ specific plans, it is expected that these meetings will take place the day immediately preceding ENDO, as this is the most convenient and cost effective opportunity for attendees (minimizes travel and housing costs by synergizing with the annual meeting).

Letter of Intent - Due August 1, 2008

In your letter of intent please be certain to address these questions:

  • What is the overall significance of the topic to the field of endocrinology?
  • How does the proposed program synergize with the Annual Meeting?
  • What competing meetings should be considered when evaluating the proposal?
  • Does the proposed meeting support the strategic plan of the Society?
  • Please broadly outline the program with proposed speakers and chairs. If available, include any statistics on the anticipated participation of women, minorities, and trainees.

Application Materials and Instructions

The Endocrine Forum application protocol requires:

1. The program organizer will complete an application which will be submitted to the Scientific & Educational Programs Core Committee (SciEd) for review (attachment #1).

In brief, successful applications will meet these criteria:

  • An endocrine-related topic that fits within TES strategic plan
  • Program must compliment, not directly conflict with, the ENDO program
  • TES members must constitute the majority of the speakers and attendees
  • Outcome measurements are well defined
  • Three learning objectives provided
  • Any support for travel expenses is directed toward trainees

2. Applications will be reviewed on an annual basis. The submission deadline is August 15, 2008. Applications will be reviewed and ranked for development priority at the September SciEd meeting.

3. If approved by the SciEd committee, the program and recommendation from SciEd will be submitted to the Executive Committee for final approval.

4. A detailed budget should be developed with all sources of revenue identified (i.e. registration fees, commercial support, grants, etc.) as well as preliminary expenses following the Endocrine Forum template. This budget should be developed in collaboration with Endocrine Society staff  in advance of submission of the proposal. To obtain a copy please contact Robert Bartel,  Director, Education, at rbartel@endo-society.org.

5. Financial support may be granted if the program is deemed to further the educational mission of the Society. A maximum of two Forum programs will be held in any given year. Financial support will be awarded according to the annual funding level established for endorsed activities and the number of requests. The Society does not guarantee funding of all requests, and will not consider requests outside of the application cycle. Funding is restricted to new initiatives and will not likely to be given on a recurring basis.
