A condensed version of this report, “What Clinicians Need to Know” is now available in the online version of The Endocrine Society’s Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism. This summary will also be included in the January 2011 print version of the journal. The Endocrine Society has been developing a Clinical Practice Guideline to determine and recommend the appropriate intake of vitamin D for different subpopulations. The Task Force charged with writing this guideline has reviewed an extensive amount of data and has been awaiting the IOM report so that it could evaluate, and possibly incorporate, the IOM’s recommendations. Publication of the Society’s Clinical Practice Guideline is anticipated in the spring of 2011. For more information on the Society’s efforts to provide guidance on appropriate dietary intake levels of vitamin D, please contact Stephanie Kutler, Director of Government Affairs, at skutler@endo-society.org.
