Chevy Chase, MD—In its recently released annual Journal Citation Report (JCR) for 2008, Thomson Reuters awarded Endocrine Reviews the top Impact Factor ranking among the 93 journals competing in the “Endocrinology & Metabolism” category.

A highly-regarded metric used to measure a journal’s success, the 2008 Impact Factor is calculated by taking the number of citations made in 2008 to articles published in 2006 and 2007, and then dividing that number by the total number of articles published in 2006 and 2007.

In addition to the success achieved by Endocrine Reviews, two other Endocrine Society journals also received top Impact Factor rankings this year within that category: The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism (JCEM) received a ranking of 11 and Molecular Endocrinology was ranked 16.  

The total number of citations received is another measure of success for journals tracked by the Journal Citation Report.  JCEM and Endocrinology rank first and second, respectively, in the number of citations received in 2008.

Endocrine Reviews publishes bimonthly comprehensive, authoritative and timely review articles balancing both experimental and clinical endocrinology themes.   The June 2009 issue included The Endocrine Society’s first-ever Scientific Statement which focused on Endocrine-Disrupting Chemicals.  The Scientific Statement is being hailed as a landmark publication.
