Chevy Chase, MD, June 14, 2008 - The Endocrine Society is pleased to announce that Lisa H. Fish, M.D., is the 2008 recipient of its Sidney H. Ingbar Distinguished Service Award. This award is presented annually in recognition of distinguished service in the field of endocrinology. The award will be presented to Dr. Fish at the Society’s 90th Annual Meeting, ENDO 08, which will take place from June 15-18, 2008 in San Francisco, California.

Dr. Fish has been an influential and active leader in clinical endocrinology for nearly 20 years. The first Endocrine Society member seated in the American Medical Association’s House of Delegates, she helped to forge The Endocrine Society’s ties with the organization. Her interests include diabetes, osteoporosis, thyroid and adrenal disease in pregnancy, and hormone abuse. As a result of her efforts, she has received such honors as an Endocrine Society Presidential Citation for Leadership in Clinical Endocrinology and The Endocrine Society’s Distinguished Physician Award. In addition to her unmatched devotion to public outreach, she is chair of endocrinology at the Park Nicollet Medical Center and assistant clinical professor at the University of Minnesota.

For more than 15 years, Dr. Fish has committed her time, energy, expertise, and leadership to The Endocrine Society. She has participated on numerous Society committees, including the Media Relations, Government Relations, Long Range Planning, Clinical Initiatives, and Nominating Committees, and she currently sits as a member of Council. She has also lent her talents to The Hormone Foundation, the public education arm of The Endocrine Society, as a member of its board from 1997-2004. She played a pivotal role in helping the foundation become a leading source of hormone-related health information for the public through its patient-oriented web site, bilingual fact sheets, and Clinical Guideline summaries. In 2005, she became the first Chair of the Hormone Foundation Committee. Currently, Dr. Fish continues her work for The Endocrine Society by serving as Vice President, Physician in Practice.
