Chevy Chase, MD, June 14, 2008 - The Endocrine Society is pleased to announce that Dr. Ron Rosenfeld is the 2008 recipient of its Robert H. Williams Distinguished Leadership Award. This award is presented annually to outstanding leadership in fundamental or clinical endocrinology. The award will be presented to Dr. Rosenfeld at ENDO 08, The Endocrine Society’s 90th Annual Meeting, which will take place from June 15-18, 2008, in San Francisco, California.

Dr. Rosenfeld has served as a quintessential leader in pediatric endocrinology for more than 20 years. He is responsible for a remarkable body of work in which he expanded knowledge of the molecular mechanisms involved in human growth disorders. He has delineated multiple defects in the GH- signaling cascade as well as characterized the mechanisms of action of insulin-like growth factors, their binding proteins, and related proteins. Furthermore, Dr. Rosenfeld has exemplified his leadership not only through the results of his work, but also through the instruction of dozens of students and trainees. A highly regarded mentor, his fellows are now leading pediatric endocrinologists in the United States, Japan, and Europe.

For nearly a decade, Dr. Rosenfeld has successfully served as Chair of Pediatrics in Portland at the Oregon Health Sciences University. Recently, he held the role of Senior Vice-President for Medical Affairs of the Lucile Packard Foundation for Children’s Health at Stanford University. In addition, he was President of both the Lawson Wilkins Pediatric Endocrine Societies and the Western Society of Pediatric Research. A sampling of Dr. Rosenfeld’s awards include the Henry Kaiser Award for Excellence in Teaching from the Stanford School of Medicine, the 2007 Transatlantic Medal from the Society for Endocrinology, and the 2007 Maureen Andrew Mentor Award from the Society of Pediatric Research and Academic Pediatric Societies. Dr. Rosenfeld has served on the editorial boards of literally every major endocrine journal and has published over 600 papers, chapters, and reviews.
