The Endocrine Society Presents the Distinguished Educator Award to Ronald S. Swerdloff at Annual Meeting

Swerdloff, M.D., is the 2008 recipient of its Distinguished Educator Award. This award is presented annually in recognition of exceptional achievement as an educator in the discipline of endocrinology and metabolism. Dr. Swerdloff will receive the award at ENDO 08, the Society’s 90th Annual Meeting, which will take place from June 15-18, 2008, in San Francisco, California. Dr. Swerdloff is a highly accomplished educator, scientist, administrator, and clinician. He has directed the clinical and research training programs at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles for 35 years and has trained over 130 endocrine fellows. He has also trained sub-specialty fellows in the allied disciplines, urology and gynecology. A number of his trainees have gone on to professorships and Chairmanships of their own and are leaders in their respective fields of endocrinology, metabolism, andrology, clinical nutrition, and diabetes. Dr. Swerdloff has effectively organized research teams that published more than 300 peer reviewed articles in his primary field of study, andrology; he has written reviews and over 100 book chapters. Dr. Swerdloff has received the American Society of Andrology Distinguished Andrologist Award, the Most Outstanding Faculty Award at UCLA, and the Outstanding West Coast Investigator by the Western Society of Clinical Investigation. A leader in several associations, he has served as President of the American Society of Andrology, Associate Editor of the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, and World Health Association advisor to China and India. He directed the UCLA Population Research Center, UCLA World Health Organization Collaborating Center for Research in Human Reproduction, Mellon Center for Men’s Health, and NIH Contraceptive Clinical Trials Center. Dr. Swerdloff is a highly regarded plenary speaker and is equally recognized for the translation of basic concepts into clinical understanding when teaching trainees at the bedside
