Toronto, Canada— The Endocrine Society’s Corporate Liaison Board (CLB) will host its annual forum on Saturday, June 2, 2007, as part of ENDO 07, the Society’s 89th Annual Meeting. The 2007 topic for the forum is “Novel Targets for Diagnosis and Treatment of Endocrine Neoplasia.”

Endocrine neoplasia refers to growths and tumors of the thyroid, pituitary, parathyroid, and adrenal glands. These relatively uncommon disorders may be cancerous or benign, and can disrupt normal function by releasing hormones or by crowding nearby tissue.

The forum includes speakers from industry, academia, and government engaged in tri-point debate on the topic of endocrine-related cancers and the frontiers of diagnosis and treatment. Among the issues to be discussed by forum participants are:

  • The utility of currently available somatostatin analogs in treating secretion and proliferation of endocrine tumors;
  • The theoretical considerations in devising new therapies utilizing somatostatin analogs;
  • Using gene testing to assist in the prevention of hereditary endocrine cancer; and
  • Distinguishing patients with advances thyroid cancer who can be monitored from those who should be considered for advanced therapy including clinical trials.

The CLB serves as an opportunity for regular and direct communication between the Society, The Hormone Foundation and the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry in endocrinology.
