The Hormone Foundation Expands on its Award Winning Collection of Bilingual Fact Sheets

The Hormone Foundation continues to expand its award-winning collection of bilingual (English/Spanish) patient fact sheets with the recent publication of two new fact sheets on bone health.Focusing on adults, Vitamin D, Calcium, and Bone Health explains the roles of vitamin D and calcium in reducing the risk of osteopenia and osteoporosis. The fact sheet identifies factors that contribute to vitamin D or calcium deficiency and lists recommended daily intakes of both nutrients.

Children and Bone Health explains that the more bone mass we “bank” in childhood and adolescence, the better protected we are from osteoporosis and bone fractures later in life. It describes the genetic, hormonal, and lifestyle influences on bone development and offers parents tips to help their child achieve maximum peak bone mass.

Also new for 2009 is Diabetes, Dyslipidemia, and Heart Protection, which explains why dyslipidemia is a concern for people with diabetes. The fact sheet identifies target lipid levels and describes lifestyle changes and drug interventions to prevent or control dyslipidemia.

Other new topics slated for publication in 2009 include:

  • Congenital Hypothyroidism
  • Growth Hormone Abuse
  • Complimentary and Alternative Treatment for Menopausal Symptoms
  • Gastric Bypass Surgery:  Benefits and Risks Related to the Endocrine System
  • Diabetes and Anti-diabetic Medication
  • Klinefelter Syndrome

The Hormone Foundation’s fact sheets are published as tear-out sheets in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism and Endocrine News. The fact sheets are also available for distribution to physicians in pads of 50 via mail, in conjunction with a CME Symposia, or from your booth at ENDO.
