A New Pathway for Expedited Peer Review
The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism (JCEM) has launched Endocrine Trials Express© a new pathway for expedited peer review and publication of important clinical trials testing novel diagnostic and therapeutic interventions for endocrine and metabolic disorders. The authors of manuscripts pre-approved for submission by this route will receive an initial decision from JCEM within two weeks. “The Journal has special interest in promptly publishing the results of major prospective randomized clinical trials,” announced editor-in-chief Paul Ladenson. “We want to make JCEM the first choice for authors who want informed, fair, and swift decision-making about publications describing clinical trials that will affect endocrine clinical practice.” JCEM is the world's leading peer-reviewed journal of clinical practice and applied clinical research. For submitted articles, JCEM already has a mean time-to-first-notification of only 25 days, and currently publishes accepted articles on-line within two days of acceptance. Nonetheless,” said Ladenson, “The clock is ticking faster than ever for clinical investigators who are now required by recent federal legislation to post the findings of their clinical trial results within one year of the final study patient completing their study.” Many major journals consider such comprehensive posted reports to represent pre-publication, rendering their paper ineligible for further editorial consideration. Authors wanting to request Endocrine Trials Express© consideration of their manuscript should contact the Managing Editor by e-mail sherman@endo-society.org before submitting their paper.
