American Board of Internal Medicine Self-Evaluation Process (ABIM SEP)

In conjunction with ENDO 2007, The Endocrine Society will conduct a Recertification Prep Course in an interactive environment designed around the ABIM SEP Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism Endocrinology Recent Advances Module 23-R. This program will contain comprehensive focus on preparation for the ABIM recertification exam. This course also serves as an excellent update and overview for those not preparing for the exam. Session highlights includes:

  • Session is conducted by three expert faculty
  • Learn in an interactive environment as faculty lead you through an in-depth coverage of content areas through 60 cased-based questions using an audience response system (ARS)
  • Introduce the benefits of SEP learning sessions to diplomates not in MOC and to trainees
  • Facilitate completion of SEP modules by MOC-enrolled diplomates in an interactive group setting with educational support
  • Dinner included with registration

At the end of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Learn and receive feedback on new diagnostic testing options
  • Learn and receive feedback on new therapeutic options
  • Receive feedback on clinical decisions regarding diagnosis and treatment of patient problems
  • Learn the similarities and difference in diagnostic and treatment options for common and unusual problems in the discipline

Target audience:
Clinical Practitioners, Clinical Researchers, and Diplomates of the ABIM who hold time-limited (current or lapsed) or non-time limited certificates in internal medicine and/or subspecialties and added qualifications of internal medicine are eligible to apply.

Advance purchase of the module is encouraged; please take your modules the day of the session. Photocopies of the modules will be available at the time of the session; however, if you are submitting for your MOC credit, you will need to submit the answer sheet found in the purchased module. Diplomates may seek MOC only in disciplines in which they have been certified.

SEP Module fee is separate from registration fees.

Please visit www.abim.org, click on the online-services tab. You will be asked to enter your 6 digit candidate number or your 9 digit U.S. social security number.

A list of Learning Sessions will be on the right. You can click on your session and order the module. If you forgot your information, click on the sidebar that says Forgot Password and ABIM will email it to you directly.

2. If you are NOT registered with the ABIM MOC, you may call 800-441-2246, extension 3593. A representative will assist you with ordering the module.




Thyroid Sonography Hands-On Workshop

This is an interactive hands-on-workshop taught by leading thyroidologists using ultrasound for thyroid disorders. Presenters will teach the use of ultrasound in the diagnostic and therapeutic evaluation of thyroid nodules, as well as in patients with thyroid cancer and hyperparathyroidism. Attendees will have an opportunity to utilize the ultrasound equipment and learn the procedure of diagnostic thyroid ultrasound and ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration.

Registration Fees: Endocrine Society members $350; nonmembers $400; fellows/students $250. Limited to 65 registrants.

Using Continuous Glucose Monitors to Improve Diabetes Care: A Review of the Latest Research and Clinical Practice Strategies

This workshop is jointly sponsored by The Endocrine Society and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The half day session will provide the latest information on continuous glucose monitoring, including an overview of the technology, research on its effectiveness, and guidance for using it in clinical practice. The program content shall address the use of continuous glucose monitors in both adult and pediatric patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. The session will also address the landscape for reimbursement of these devices, and ways to incorporate them into a successful health care practice. Finally, the session will introduce the next generation of technology on the horizon, an artificial pancreas which combines continuous glucose sensing with insulin delivery to provide automated glucose control.

The Endocrine Society is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The Endocrine Society designates this educational activity for a maximum of 4.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits T. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Learner Objectives:
Upon completion of this educational activity, participants should be able to:

  • Understand the indications and limitations of continuous glucose monitors available at the present time.
  • Contrast the features of existing continuous glucose monitoring devices available.
  • Utilize continuous glucose monitoring data to make clinical decisions.
