Q. Do I need a passport and/or visa to travel to/from Canada?
Beginning January 23, 2007, the US government will be requiring that each US citizen and permanent resident traveling outside of the US by air must carry a valid US passport or other secure travel document such as a NEXUS Air card. All children, regardless of age, must have their own passport to enter the US.

Non-US Citizens: Must carry a valid passport and visa (if required). Citizens from the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Mexico, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Australia and others do not require a visa to enter Canada. Contact a Canadian embassy, high commission or consulate for information on what you will need before coming to Canada.

Q. What are the Canadian entry requirements for children?
R. If you are traveling with children under 18-years, you should carry identification for each child such as a birth certificate or green card. Children traveling without their parents, with one parent, or with guardians, should carry written permission. Divorced parents with shared custody rights should carry legal documents establishing their status.

Q. What can delay or prohibit my entry into Canada?
R. You may not be permitted to enter Canada if you have a criminal conviction, including a conviction for driving while impaired.

What are the US re-entry requirements for Non-US citizens studying/working in the US?
R. Make sure that your visa allows for multiple re-entries into the US. If your return trip also involves a connection in the US, you may need a visa for the trip to Toronto and another for the return. Each stop may be counted as one entry and exit.

Q. Where can American travelers get a US passport?
R. First-time passport applicants need to apply for their passport in person. Passport renewals can be done by mail if: Your most recent passport is available to submit and it is not damaged; you received the passport within the past 15 years; you were over age 16 when it was issued; you still have the same name, or can legally document your name change.
