Communities: Committees

Definitions of the Designated Seats

The current (Council-approved) definitions are as follows:

Basic Scientist: An individual who devotes a substantial amount of his/her time to basic research, education, or administration.

Clinical Scientist: An individual who devotes a substantial amount of his/her time to clinical investigation, education or administration.

Physician-in-Practice: An individual who devotes a substantial amount of his/her time to direct patient care.

The Nominating Committee must bring any exceptions to these categories to the Executive Committee for approval. At the Nominating Committee's discretion, candidates who are exceptions to the formal definitions (above), including recent retirees, may be proposed. Such action would be taken only when the Nominating Committee felt that the proposed candidate would be deemed a strong and appropriate leader by members of that constituency.
