Doris Adelheid Stoffers, MD, PhD University of Pennsyvania
Doris Stoffers, Professor of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, discovered that mutations in the Pdx1 gene lead to Maturity Onset Diabetes of the Young in humans. Her influential studies of Pdx1 molecular function and regulation have had a major impact on our current understanding of the development, physiology, and pathophysiology of the insulin-producing, pancreatic beta cell.
