The Laureate Awards

With the addition of two new awards, bringing the total number of Laureate Awards to 13 and valued at $89K, the Laureate Awards represent the pinnacle of achievement in the field of endocrinology. For over 70 years, The Endocrine Society has recognized endocrinologists worldwide. These distinguished recipients are the innovators, educators and practitioners who are transforming the science and practice of endocrinology. Their accomplishments are unmatched in a broad spectrum of activities, including science, leadership, education, service and practice. The dedication, commitment and achievements of these winners have earned them a place beside some of the greatest endocrinologists in history.
 

Fred Conrad Koch Award
2012 Award Recipient - Samuel Refetoff, MD
This award is the highest honor bestowed by The Endocrine Society in recognition of exceptional contributions to endocrinology. The recipient receives the Fred Conrad Koch Medal of The Endocrine Society and an honorarium of $25,000. Supported by the Fred Conrad Koch Memorial Fund.

Robert H. Williams Distinguished Leadership Award
2012 Award Recipient - Leonard Wartofsky, MD, MACP
This award is presented in recognition of outstanding leadership in fundamental or clinical endocrinology as exemplified by the recipient's contributions and those of his/her trainees and associates to teaching, research and administration. The award includes an honorarium of $5,000. Supported by The Endocrine Society.

Sidney H. Ingbar Distinguished Service Award
2012 Award Recipient – Alvin M Matsumoto, MD
This award is presented in recognition of distinguished service in the field of endocrinology and includes an honorarium of $3,000. Supported by the Sidney H. Ingbar Memorial Fund.

Distinguished Educator Award
2012 Award Recipient – Francis S Greenspan, MD, Clinical Professor Emeritus
This award is presented in recognition of exceptional achievement as an educator in the discipline of endocrinology and metabolism and includes an honorarium of $3,000. Supported by The Endocrine Society.

Distinguished Physician Award
2012 Award Recipient – John A H Wass, MA, MD, FRCP 
This award is presented in recognition of outstanding contributions to the practice of clinical endocrinology and includes an honorarium of $3,000. Supported by The Endocrine Society.

Edwin B. Astwood Award Lecture
2012 Award Recipient – Keith R Yamamoto, PhD
This award is presented for outstanding research in endocrinology. The recipient presents a plenary lecture at the Society’s Annual Meeting and receives an honorarium of $3,000. Supported by The Endocrine Society.

Gerald D. Aurbach Award Lecture
2012 Award Recipient – Evan Dale Abel, MBBS, DPhil
This award is presented for outstanding contributions to research in endocrinology. The recipient presents a plenary lecture at the Society’s Annual Meeting and receives an honorarium of $3,000. Supported by the Gerald D. Aurbach Memorial Fund.

Roy O. Greep Award Lecture
2012 Award Recipient – Carol A Lange, PhD
This award is presented for outstanding contributions to research in endocrinology. The recipients present a plenary lecture at the Society’s Annual Meeting and receives an honorarium of $3,000. Supported by the Roy O. Greep Memorial Fund.

Clinical Investigator Award Lecture
2012 Award Recipient – Gerald I Shulman, MD, PhD
This award is given to an internationally recognized clinical investigator for major contributions to clinical research related to the pathogenesis, pathophysiology and therapy of endocrine diseases. The recipient presents a plenary lecture at the Society’s Annual Meeting and receives an honorarium of $3,000. Supported by The Endocrine Society.

Ernst Oppenheimer Award
2012 Award Recipient – Tamas L Horvath, DVM, PhD
This is the premier award presented to a young investigator in recognition of meritorious accomplishments in the field of basic or clinical endocrinology. The recipient must not reach the age of 49 by December 31 of the year in which the award is presented. The award includes an honorarium of $3,000. Supported by The Endocrine Society.

Richard E. Weitzman Memorial Award
2012 Award Recipient - Manuel Tena-Sempere, MD, PhD
Richard E. Weitzman Memorial Award is given to an exceptionally promising young clinical or basic investigator who has not reached the age of 43 by December 31 of the year in which the award is presented. The award is based on the contributions and achievements of the nominee's own independent scholarship performed after completion of formal training and on the recipient's entire body of work, rather than a single work. This award includes a $3,000 honorarium. Supported by the Richard E. Weitzman Memorial Fund.
