The Wellcome Trust has announced that it will increase its five-year funding level for biomedical and related research by about 60 percent when compared to the past five years. Additionally, the Trust has dedicated a substantial sum—about equivalent to its total research budget for 2006-2007—to fund large-scale biomedical projects around the globe. Established in the U.K. in 1936, the Wellcome Trust funds biomedical research both in the U.K. and internationally and supports public debate about biomedical research and its impact on health and wellbeing.
