Three Clinical Practice Guidelines Approved

Endocrine Insider
January 10, 2008

During its recent January meeting, The Endocrine Society’s Council approved three clinical practice guidelines—Diagnosis of Cushing’s Syndrome, Primary Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease and Type 2 Diabetes in Patients at Metabolic Risk, and Case Detection, Diagnosis, and Treatment of Patients with Primary Aldosteronism. These guidelines will be submitted to the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism for peer review and should become available later this year.

In addition, three topics for the next set of clinical practice guidelines were also approved at the meeting. Since 2004, the Clinical Guidelines Subcommittee, chaired by Robert Vigersky, MD, has identified topics in the field of endocrinology for which practicing physicians are in need of updated analysis of the scientific and medical literature presented in a guideline format for clinical practice. This year’s topics are:

  • Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia
  • Managing patients post-bariatric surgery
  • Pituitary incidentaloma
