At its June 13, 2008 meeting, the Society’s Council approved a Society position statement on levothyroxine bioequivalence.  Position statements are thoroughly vetted documents outlining the Society’s views on current and salient issues in the public-policy arena.  The new statement addresses the concerns of members regarding the FDA’s determinations of bioequivalence of levothyroxine (L-T4) products and the potentially harmful and costly prescribing practices resulting from the determinations.  The position statement was developed by the Society’s Clinical Affairs Core Committee in collaboration with the Advocacy and Public Outreach Core Committee.  To read the entire position statement, complete with background and considerations, click here: statement on levothyroxine bioequivalence.
