At its June 8 meeting, Council approved a new position statement on endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs).  Society position statements are thoroughly vetted documents outlining the Society’s views on current and salient issues in the public-policy arena.  The EDC Position Statement presents the public health concerns of exposure to EDCs and proposes a series of recommendations for revising current policy and generating new policy on EDCs.  The statement was developed by the Research Affairs Core Committee through a writing group of EDC experts and in collaboration with the Advocacy and Public Outreach Core Committee.

The Society is concerned that the public may be placed at risk for exposure to EDCs because critical information about their potential health effects is being overlooked in the development of federal guidelines and regulations. The Society supports centralization of EDC regulations and full disclosure to the public about potential health effects of exposure to EDCs.
