Endocrine Insider The Endocrine Society is co-sponsoring the International Workshop on Primary Hyperparathyroidism (PHPT), to take place in Orlando, Fla., on Tuesday, May 13, 2008. This workshop is an opportunity for experts from around the globe to provide updates on the diagnosis and treatment of the disease following a previous workshop held in 2002. The anticipated result of the 2008 workshop is revision of the 2002 guidelines with updated information from advances made in the intervening six years. These advances have led to a better understanding of the molecular pathogenesis and natural history of PHPT, to the identification of important new clinical aspects of the disease such as atypical manifestations and new presentations, and to improved medical and surgical management. Additional co-sponsoring organizations include McMaster University, American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, American Society of Bone and Mineral Research, Canadian Endocrine Update, Canadian Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism, European Symposium on Calcified Tissues, International Association of Endocrine Surgeons, The Italian Bone and Mineral Research Foundation, and The International Bone and Mineral Society.
