The Endocrine Society is asking its clinician members to participate in a short survey developed by one of its Sister Societies, the American Thyroid Association (ATA), on radiation safety precautions. The ATA has formed a task force to produce recommendations on I-131 safety protocols for thyroid cancer. The survey was developed after ATA noted marked variations in the radiation safety precautions that patients are instructed to follow, even within individual institutions. Data collected from this survey will be used to determine best practices and to reveal misconceptions in I-131 safety protocols.

All physicians who treat patients with thyroid cancer are urged to participate. This survey will help to ensure the safety of thyroid cancer patients by increasing the consistency of information provided to them in the future.
