New NIH Policy Eases Burden of Peer Review

Endocrine Insider
January 10, 2008

In an ongoing effort to provide incentives to scientists to participate on peer review panels, the Center for Scientific Review has introduced a new policy for chartered members of standing study sections. The new policy allows such study section members to submit grant applications on a rolling basis as the applications are completed, rather than having to meet a specific deadline that coincides with the time of greatest workload associated with reviewing others’ applications. Applications submitted under this policy will be reviewed no later than 120 days after date of submission. Only R01, R21, and R34 mechanisms are included in the policy.
