Jeffrey Pessin, PhD, Appointed Director of Diabetes Research Center at Albert Einstein College of Medicine

Yeshiva University has named Society member Jeffrey Pessin, PhD, director of the Diabetes Research Center of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, effective January 10. He will also serve as professor of medicine at Einstein and will hold the Judy R. and Alfred A. Rosenberg Professorial Chair in Diabetes Research.

Dr. Pessin is a longstanding member of The Endocrine Society and has served on the Journals Operating Subcommittee and on the editorial boards of Molecular Endocrinology and Endocrinology; he served as editor-in-chief of Endocrinology from 2003 through 2007.

Dr. Pessin’s research has encompassed several crucial aspects of diabetes. He is now studying the role of insulin signaling in activating and controlling glucose uptake and metabolism, the development of adipose tissue from adult stem cells, and the reasons for the persistence of newly developed fat cells despite weight loss.
