Institutes and Centers Receive Supplemental Funds

Endocrine Insider
August 21, 2008

As a result of language in the war supplemental spending bill, which allocates an additional $150 million to NIH for FY2008, each of the Institutes and Centers at NIH received an increase of 0.5% of its previous FY2008 funding level.  Buildings and Facilities and the Office of the Director (OD) were exceptions to the pro-rata increases.  The OD received an increase because of the 0.5% increase to the Common Fund, which is housed in the OD; the additional funds resulted in a 0.2% increase in the overall OD budget.  Buildings and Facilities did not receive any of the supplemental funds.

The table below shows the supplemental funds allocated to some key Institutes and Centers.

IC Supplemental ($million)
NCI 25.6
NIDDK 9.1
NIGMS 10.3
NICHD 6.7
NIA 5.6
NIAMS 2.7
NCRR 6.1
NCMHD 1.1
