Endocrine Society Featured in On-line Video

The Endocrine Society has been featured in a new on-line video produced by Discover Magazine, which is considered to have the largest worldwide circulation of any general science publication. The video, which is based on the ENDO 07 roundtable “Redefining Aging: the Impact of Endocrine Research,” is one of the primary outcomes of the Society’s year-long collaboration with Discover Magazine to explore the potential opportunities and risks surrounding the use of hormones in an attempt to forestall the effects of aging.

This outreach activity was proposed and overseen by the Society’s Media Advisory Committee, which is now part of the Advocacy and Public Outreach Core Committee.

The roundtable panel, which included Society members Drs. Marc Blackman, Ginger Constantine, Adrian Dobs, Andrea Dunaif, Sara Rosenthal, and Michael Thorner, debated many current and controversial topics, such as whether it is appropriate or safe to take anti-aging hormone therapy, whether such therapy is as effective as people suppose, cultural attitudes toward aging, the financial and societal burden of a burgeoning population of the very old, and scientific breakthroughs that promise to greatly improve health and the quality of life as we age.

In addition to the web-based video, the content from the roundtable was also featured in the magazine’s December issue, which has a circulation of more than 6 million readers. The video and the complete text from the corresponding magazine article can be viewed here:
