Endocrine Insider
In an effort to engage the presidential candidates in a debate on the value of scientific and technology research, the Scientists & Engineers for America (SEA) posed 14 scientific and technology-related questions to Senator Obama and Senator McCain. The survey includes questions on research, biosecurity, scientific integrity, innovation, genetics and stem cell research. Senator Obama provided answers to the questions this week and expressed support for increasing funding for basic research in physical and life sciences at a rate that would double basic research budgets over the next decade. Senator Obama also supports lifting the current administration's ban on federal funding of research on embryonic stem cell lines created after August 9, 2001 and ensuring that scientific research is based on the best- available, scientifically valid evidence and not on the ideological predispositions of agency officials or political appointees.
