CDMRP Breast and Ovarian Cancer Research Funding Increase

The Fiscal Year 2009 Defense Appropriation Act (Public Law 110-329) provides research funding for the following endocrine-related programs managed by the Department of Defense office of Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP):

·        Breast Cancer Research Program $150 Million (9% increase over FY08)

·        Prostate Cancer Research Program $80 Million (no change from FY08)

·        Ovarian Cancer Research Program $20 Million (double FY08 levels)

·        Peer Reviewed Medical Research Program $50 Million (PRMRP; no change from  FY08)

Osteoporosis and related bone disease is one topic among many included in the PRMRP.

The DOD has not issued Program Announcements yet but has stated it will do so in fall 2008 and early 2009, including detailed descriptions of funding mechanisms, evaluation criteria, submission requirements, and deadlines. Details about the program, and Program Announcemnts as available, may be found at the CDMRP website at http://cdmrp.army.mil.  Program Announcements will also be posted at www.grants.gov.
