This month The Endocrine Society appeared in several high profile media outlets. In his blog on The New York Times Web site, Nicholas Kristof wrote about the new warning from the President’s Cancer Panel about the danger of environmental influences (see accompanying Endocrine Insider article).  Kristof cited the Society’s Scientific Statement on endocrine-disrupting chemicals as a “milestone” warning about the potential harm of these chemicals. His article can be found here.

On May 5 and 6, the NBC Nightly News aired a two-part segment on the 50th anniversary of the birth control pill. After giving a history of the pill, the segment discussed the pill’s evolution and the future of contraception. As part of the future of contraception, the segment highlighted a study from the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism (JCEM) on injectable testosterone as an effective means of male contraception. The news segment featured the May 2009 cover of JCEM, the issue in which the original research was reported.

This two-part series aired a second time the following morning on The Today Show.
