On Thursday, July 22, National Institutes of Health Director Francis Collins announced the appointment of Alan E. Guttmacher, M.D., as director of the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD).  Dr. Guttmacher had served as the Institute’s acting director since the departure of former director Duane Alexander, MD.  As acting director, Dr. Guttmacher began a process of developing a scientific vision for the NICHD.  During the next year, the Institute will work with stakeholders to identify scientific opportunities and directions for the coming decade.  The Endocrine Society has already engaged in this process and will remain actively involved in the coming months.

More information about Dr. Guttmacher and the NICHD is available here.
