FDA Takes Aim at Bioidentical Hormones
In a significant victory for physicians and patients, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced on January 9 that it has begun enforcement action against seven compounding pharmacies making false and misleading claims about the safety and efficacy of "bioidentical hormones."

 
Endocrine Society Featured in On-line Video

Temporary Physician Pay Fix Sets Stage for Uphill Battle in 2008
As 2007 was coming to a close, Congress passed S. 2499, the Medicare, Medicaid, and S-CHIP Extension Act of 2007, temporarily halting the 10.1 percent Medicare physician payment cut that was set to begin on January 1, 2008.

 
NIH to See Small Increase in FY 2008; Bill Includes New Language on Open Access
After a drawn-out process including several continuing resolutions and a failed veto override attempt, Congress and the president have agreed upon appropriations for FY 2008 in an omnibus spending package that was signed into law on December 26, 2007.

 
Three Clinical Practice Guidelines Approved
During its recent January meeting, The Endocrine Society’s Council approved three clinical practice guidelines—Diagnosis of Cushing’s Syndrome, Primary Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease and Type 2 Diabetes in Patients at Metabolic Risk, and Case Detection, Diagnosis, and Treatment of Patients with Primary Aldosteronism.

 
New NIH Policy Eases Burden of Peer Review
Applications submitted under this policy will be reviewed no later than 120 days after date of submission.
