FDA Advisory Panel Votes to Keep Avandia on the Market; Society Offers Testimony In a public hearing held on July 30, 2007, a joint panel of the Endocrinologic and Metabolic Drugs Advisory Committee and the Drug Safety and Risk Management Advisory Committee voted 22-1 to recommend to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that the diabetes drug Avandia (rosiglitazone) be kept on the market with the addition of a black box warning for specific subgroups of patients.

| House Approves NIH Funding Measure The U.S. House of Representatives passed the FY 2008 Labor-Health and Human Services (HHS)-Education appropriations bill, which outlines funding allocations for the National Institutes of Health (NIH), on July 19, 2007 by a vote of 276-140. The bill provides NIH with a $750 million increase (2.6 percent) over FY 2007 levels.
