Alving, Rodgers Officially Appointed to Directorships

Barbara Alving, MD, has been named director of the National Center for Research Resources (NCRR). NCRR provides laboratory scientists and clinical researchers with the environments and tools they need to understand, detect, treat, and prevent a wide range of diseases. Dr. Alving has been serving as acting director of NCRR, overseeing the launch of the Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA) program. Dr. Alving has served in many roles in federal research agencies and is the recipient of several awards and honors.

Griffin P. Rodgers, MD, has been appointed director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK). NIDDK conducts and supports basic and clinical research on many of the most serious diseases affecting public health including obesity, diabetes, endocrinology, and metabolic diseases. Dr. Rodgers was appointed deputy director of NIDDK in 2001 and has been serving as acting director. In addition to his medical degree, Dr. Rodgers holds an MBA from Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Rodgers has been widely recognized and honored for his research on sickle cell disease.
