Alert: Medtronic Announces Recall of Insulin Pump Infusion Sets

July 13, 2009

Dear Member:

As you may have heard, Medtronic Diabetes has announced that it is recalling approximately 3 million infusion sets used with the MiniMed Paradigm insulin pump. The company asks that patients stop using "Lot 8" Quick-set infusion sets, due to a problem that could result in too much or too little insulin being delivered. The company estimates that approximately 60,000 (2%) of the 3 million recalled "Lot 8" Quick-set infusion sets on the market are damaged. Infusion sets involved in the recall include reference numbers MMT-396, MMT-397, MMT-398, and MMT-399. Most of these products were distributed in the U.S.

Medtronic has mailed notifications to customers and will replace "Lot 8" Quick-set infusion sets at no additional charge.

Additional information on this recall can be found on the Medtronic website, located at http://www.medtronicdiabetes.com/lot8/indexa.html.
